Srinagar, Mar 31: To discuss career planning of students enrolled in Directorate of Distance Education, the Kashmir University today organized a “Course Representatives’ Meet” for the enrolled students for various courses through Distance Mode.
Vice Chancellor, KU, Prof Talat Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion.
Inaugurating the programme, he said, “The demands of 21st century make it important for all the universities to adopt a more aggressive approach for the implementation of innovative policies and plans in the field of higher education to provide employment opportunities to the youth.”
“One of the major concerns that has been expressed widely about academic institutions has been that students coming out are not able to effectively relate with the dynamic business world. We need to develop a strategic approach to deliver quality education and equip our students with the required knowledge, skills, and competencies to make them employable,” he said.
He emphasized that there is a need for students to connect to wider environment and real situations to be able to apply the theories, concepts, models and strategies.
Prof Talat Ahmad advised the students to explore avenues across the globe and informed them about various initiatives being taken by the University for generating employment opportunities.
Prof Neelofer Khan, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, in her address stressed the need to initiate innovative programmes for distance learners, to make these programmes more meaningful and result oriented.
Prof Shabir A Bhat, Director, Business School and Career Planning and Counselling, KU said that since the advent of new economic policy and consequent upon the emergence of liberalization, privatization and globalization regime, the domain of business education has diversified and came under stiff competition all across the globe.
“The competitiveness of our economy in the future will depend largely on innovations and creativity,” he said.
The address was followed by an thought provoking session by the representatives of IYOGI which included Naveed Ahmad, AVP, IYOGI, Gurgoan, and HR Head Manshu Singh.
They presented an overview of opportunities for youth in the corporate sector in India and abroad.
